ABOUT

James Izlar is a multimedia artist & archivist currently working in Philadelphia, PA.  Born in Washington, D.C., and being raised in Clinton, NJ, James has a wide cultural background to draw inspiration from in his work.  He is well-versed in both digital and film photography, and experiments with different ways to alter his photographs.  James has also made multiple experimental films, using both his own and found footage to create surreal visuals and narratives.

While always enamored with the arts, James didn’t begin seriously making art until he was 15.  He quickly fell in love with photography and its potential to tell and create a story within an image.  Originally wanting to be a photojournalist, emboldened by the works of Gordon Parks, Vivian Maier and Robert Frank, James began to expand his work by creating experimental portrait photography.
